Remove Owner and Picture from Start Menu

I would like to know if Windows allows these things to be removed. I am the
only user of the computer, so I guess that makes me the "Owner," but I'd rather
dump that word and that silly picture of an electric guitar. Thanks.

Well, Bill, what I see is the option to change the picture or my name, but not
to remove that bar from the top of the Start Menu. What am I missing?

The only way to remove both of those from the Start Menu is to uncheck the option to "Use the Welcome screen". When you boot to Windows (or log off), you will get a plain input box to enter the user id and password. You can remove just the user name from the start menu, but that still leaves the ugly picture.

Thanks. You know, I can't be sure because memory is tricky, but it seems to me
that when I first started using XP, that box (and picture) were not there. I
think they only appeared after I went snooping into "user profiles." I would
have noticed that ugly picture. Is it possible that if a new install never
opens user profiles, that box would not have to be there?
