My notebook had a windows XP home edition, but it got
crashed (not even start up in safe mode), so I
reinstalled XP. In order to preserve my files in my
documents, I had to install another copy in another
folder. Now I have two XP OS showing up when I start up
the machine, they look identical, but only the first one
works, the second one (the old version) doesn't. How can
remove the second one that I don't need to keep the junk
of the old, nonfunctional XP? Thank you very much.

You should run a Windows 98'start up disk and the fdisk
command... then delete the partition that you want to
delete... That's all...

Thanks for your reply, but I didn't do any partition in
my harddisk, so both of them are in the same partition.
