Remove last characters

Hello,
I'm trying to remove the last character in about 2,000 cells. Th
catch is that the last characters are all different,and those cell
have to be put into a formula after the character is removed.
Here is what I am doing
NOW: 0000034F
0000562G
0654200{

NEEDS TO BE: .0000034
.0000562
! .06542

I'm using the =VALUE("0." & a1) to turn it into the decimals, now
just need to get rid of those characters. Can anyone help??
