Remove hyperlinks from Outlook calendar items

I created a new appointment in Outlook's calendar that contained a web
address. Outlook automatically turned this into a hyperlink without
asking me. Could anyone please tell me how I remove this? And if,
possible, turn it off for ever with a registry hack or something?

<rant> I hate this. I do not want the hyperlink. I just want plain text.
I loathe the way Microsoft presumes to take over my data without even
asking me. It's rude and crude. The hyperlink is useless anyway because
I have never, and will never, let Xp anywhere near the internet; I can
do without spyware and other nasties, thank you. Only Microsoft software
ever annoys me in this way, which is one reason why I'm slowly trying to
make my life as Microsoft-free as possible. If I ever find myself
gnashing my teeth and getting exasperated while on the PC I guarantee
it'll be Microsoft software that's raising my blood pressure. </rant>

Phew. I've calmed down a bit now. But I'd be much happier still if I
knew how to turn off this 'feature'.

What? That's crazy! Thanks for your help, Sue.

So it's yet another instance of Microsoft's clumsy software doing things
that are not requested nor wanted. Great. I just had a nightmare of Bill
Gates and Steve Baalmer wearing funny little black caps with shiny black
peaks on them, sneering at me and saying:
Steve B: "You *vill* do zings ze vay *ve* vont you to!"
Bill G: "Zere iss no uzzer vay! aaaAAAAHAHAHAHAHA!"

I'm off to investigate other calendar software for the Pocket PC. The
only reason I've been using Outlook is that it came loaded on my Pocket
PC mobile phone. Compared to other PIMS I've used, Outlook is terribly
bad software.

Hello,

I'm also quite interested in this setting. Could you tell me pls, which
option I have to disable. I'm using Outlook 2003.

Thanks in advance,

Well, I don't think it's crazy. I've been working with Outlook for 8 years
and this is the first time I recall seeing a request to turn off this bit of
autoformatting in the built-in RTF editor. Building a mechanism to turn it
on or off would not necessarily be a simple task and could wind up breaking
other features of the editor. It's the type of cosmetic change that isn't
likely to rise very high on the feature prioritization list when programming
resources are allocated.

I have to smile reading that, because it looks as though Sandor would
also like to know how to get rid of this annoyance - unless I've
misunderstood his post in this thread.

Oh, come on. I seriously doubt it's that hard to turn it off. For
instance, I believe that in Word you can turn it off. What's irritating
is that this is such a typically annoying Microsoft way of doing things.
You know, as in: they're not interested in the internet for ages and
ages and then, when it starts to gather momentum they suddenly want to
own all of it, which results in operating system-wide integration, and
suddenly you find that if you so much as think a url it gets activated
and recorded in several different places, including the registry. Well,
I don't want that sort of intrusiveness. It's annoying to format my
documents without asking me, and it's downright rude not to give me the
option to change the formatting back to how I wanted it in the first place.

Urp,

you've understood me totally right and I agree with you. For example in Word
one of the first things that I always turn off is for example some of the
AutoCorrect features. But in that application at least I do have the
opportunity to stop this behaviour :(( (no matter how hidden that option
ever might be...)
