My mind is going.......
Can someone remind me where i access to programs that start automatically
when windows loads?

I want to remove a program from starting at boot up. I've done it in the
past but so long ago I can't remember how and I must be asking the online
help the wrong question as its not being very helpful

Thanks in anticipation

First see if there is something in the program to do this. This is better.
If not, then Start > Run > msconfig > "Startup" tab

Start>Run> type "msconfig" (without quotes), click OK, click the Startup Tab.
Should be a list of programs there to check or uncheck. Suggest making a Word
document of what is already checked & unchecked before & after making changes.
There could be 80 programs listed and only 50 of them are checked.

In Paul Martin had this to say:

Have a tiny app that's free (you can tip him) and allows you to disable (not
delete unless you want to) stuff... Handy stuff...

Startup Control Panel:

One of my favorite apps, it's on my emergency CDs that I carry.

A shorter way to access "Startup" is:
Start > Programs > Startup >[move mouse cursor to right or left as
required and view all programs in Startup] If you find there the
shortcut to an unwanted program, just delete it.

The first thing is that not all things are listed there.
Second thing : If you delete from there and you want that back, it is
difficult. BUT if you uncheck that from msconfig, you can get that back
just by ticking it again.

I want to remove a program from starting at boot up. I've done it in
the past but so long ago I can't remember how and I must be asking
the online help the wrong question as its not being very helpful

On each program you don't want to start automatically, check its Options to
see if it has the choice not to start (make sure you actually choose the
option not to run it, not just a "don't show icon" option). Many can easily
and best be stopped that way. If that doesn't work, run MSCONFIG from the
Start | Run line, and on the Startup tab, uncheck the programs you don't
want to start automatically.

However, if I were you, I wouldn't do this just for the purpose of running
the minimum number of programs. Despite what many people tell you, you
should be concerned, not with how *many* of these programs you run, but
*which*. Some of them can hurt performance severely, but others have no
effect on performance.

Don't just stop programs from running willy-nilly. What you should do is
determine what each program is, what its value is to you, and what the cost
in performance is of its running all the time. You can get more information
about these at http://castlecops.com/StartupList.html. If you can't find it
there, try google searches and ask about specifics here.

Once you have that information, you can make an intelligent informed
decision about what you want to keep and what you want to get rid of.

Download and install __startupCPL__. Google startupCPL.

You are referring to the System Configuration Utility which you can access
from: Start/Run/type "msconfig" (less the quotation markers) and click "OK".
A better method is to use "Startup Control Panel" which is a free program
from Mike Lin. His site is at: http://www.mlin.net/ .
