OK, firstly, I run Windows XP Pro and I have 2 DVD/CD
drives, a zip drive, and a jaz drive.
The system can perfectly recognize whatever is in the
drive when the computer initially boots, but when I go to
change the CD, DVD, or disk, when I try to access it, I
get a message that the drive is not accessible. For the
DVD/CD drives, under My Computer, it is still able to
recognize if the disk is a CD or DVD.
For the record, I do not have DirectCD installed. I read
about that causing a similar problem some how, but I
don't know the exact details of it.
I have tried reinstalling the drivers, getting all of the
latest updates from Windows Update, and stopping all
processes that I believe could be locking the drives. I
also attempted to reinstall Windows XP Pro, but after the
first reboot, I got a message that
some "PROCESS_INITIALIZATION" failed.
Does anyone have any idea of what I could do to fix this
or at least what I should look at? If you need any more
information, please let me know.
Thank you!
