I am having problems setting this up - can anyone help
My office machine is on a LAN connected to a ZyXEL Prestidge 642 Router and
my home machine is connected to a DSL modem.

I think I have allowed routing via port 3389 on the router however the
instructions are not clear.

I still can't work remotely.

I want to be able to access my office machine from home and my home machine
from my office - HELP!

Any error messages when you try to connect remotely?

Are you sure your calling the correct public IP for the work router?

Any personal firewall software running on the work PC?

Have you tried connecting from another PC over the work LAN to verify the basic Remote Desktop setup
is working correctly?

Try this telnet test to see if you can pinpoint the problem area...

You need to know for sure if the public IP of the router your calling is correct...

ZoneAlarm will block TCP Port 3389, which will make Remote Desktop connections to that PC fail,
although if it works over your office LAN then you seem to have that configured correctly.

It all points to the router if the telnet test fails, or an incorrect public IP for the router, and
you can connect over your local office LAN... Verify that port forwarding through the router is
configured correctly...

I know the Public IP or the router (office) and it is correct but what
should I do with it? I have entered into the router Port 3389 and the IP of
my home machine

The telnet did work but only when I telnet the router IP address, which then
lets me into the router itself

I have now checked my home LAN and can access machines on that network via
remote desktop.

All I need now if to be able to access my office from my home.

Any more suggestions please

Good...what was the final solution? That information may help others in the future...
