I can't figure out what happened to my remote desktop setup. I have used it
for 2 years and now it has stopped. It worked for about 2 weeks in January,
without me making any changes and now it is down again. If I try to connect
the client at home can't find my office pc. Does someone have a detailed
checklist of registry settings I can check on, or some other solution? I am
running XP professional sp2

thanks
Milton

You need to check the usual things:
- Do you have the correct IP address for your office network?
- Do you use the correct port? The default is 3389?
- Does your office firewall have a tunnel for port 3389?
- Does the tunnel point to the office PC?
- Does the office PC listen on port 3389?
- Is remote desktop enabled on the office PC?
- Can you reach the office PC from within the office network?

From home I can get to other pcs running remote desktop.
Yes it is enabled
I haven't changed any ports and since it is intermitten I think it must be
something in the registry.
I cannot reach the PC from within the office network

Being unable to reach the PC from within the office
network reduced my list to these items:

- Do you use the correct port? The default is 3389?
Try this command to find out: telnet 192.168.0.55 3389
(use the correct IP address for the RD host!)
- Does the office PC listen on port 3389?
(Check its firewalls. See if the Terminal Server service is running.)
- Is remote desktop enabled on the office PC?

telneting to the PC on 3389 does not work. How do I test if the port is
listening?
thanks
Milton
