Hello,
I've researched a great deal before posting this message, but have had
not one iota of luck. Here is my scenario:

I have:
a cable modem
Netgear MR814v2 wireless/4port router
a static IP address assigned to me by my ISP (My ISP does NOT use
PPPoE)

I have two machines behind my router.

Machine A is a desktop that has a static ip of 192.168.0.100
Machine B is a laptop that has a DHCP assigned IP. 192.168.0.xxx

I want Machine A to allow remote desktop connections because when I am
away from my network, I need access to it. I have configured my
Netgear router to forward port 3389 to 192.168.0.100.

THEORETICALLY, I know I have everything configured properly because
when I start a remote desktop session on Machine B and connect to
Machine A, I type in the ISP assigned static ip address and I actually
see the session begin.

The problem lies in that it takes minutes for everything to paint to
Machine B's screen. Once that finishes, every mouse click I make on
the remote desktop takes forever to echo to my screen.

(FWIW: For diagnostic purposes, instead of using the ISP assigned IP
address, I connected using the 192.168.0.100 address and it worked
perfectly.)

At this point, please offer me some suggestions. Between reading
various postings and trying out different configurations, I am at
wit's end. If you need more info from please, post your question and
I'll reply.

Thanks for all your help.

Just a quick note of reminder that your speed of a remote desktop is
limited by the slower of (1) Your remote download speed or (2) your
server's upload speed. Most Cable and DSL connections operate much
slower up than they do down, thus why there is a speed issue.

Also consider going to the experience tab on the Remote Desktop
connection client and turn off some of the bandwidth intensive
options.

Jeffrey,
Thank you for the response.

Strange as it might seem. I took my laptop (Machine B) and went over
to a friends house. I initiated a RD session and it was much faster.
So I don't know that the deal is now. Go figure. :-P
