I notice on this site

that the remote desktop software can be downloaded for other Windows

is there any way at all of remotely accessing a machine running XP
Home edition from a machine running Pro using this software?

Hi Gordon - Apparently you can't use Remote Desktop (as opposed to
Remote Desktop Assistance) to access an XP Home box.

I found this site which looks really useful regarding Remote Desktop.

Naturally you know all about the various flavors of *VNC which are free.
On the Windows side, the commercial product pcAnywhere works well. I
had a copy so I use it to support my brother's XP Home laptop in Maine
from my XP Pro box in California.

You can also connect to an XP Home box from Linux easily because the rdp
protocol isn't limited to Windows. There is a KDE program for the gui
or you can just connect from a browser. Recently I tried out the
Kanotix live cd and it has an amazingly easy Remote Desktop setup.
