I have a P4 2.4 GHz machine running XP Pro, and I have a Mac G4 Dual 867
running Mac OS 10.2. I have them both, along with my cable modem connected
to a router. I'd like to be able to use the DVD drive that is installed on
my Mac, as a remote drive from my PC. I've installed Samba, but that
doesn't seem to do what I want. And I've installed Remote Desktop
Connection on both machines. I can connect to my PC from my Mac remotely,
but I can't seem to do it the other way around, nor can I figure out how to
acsess the Mac's DVD burner from my PC. Does anyone know how I can do this?
Thanks.

Hi -

Some of what you're trying to do is possible, some if it
might not be ;-)

If you're looking to share the DVD burner as a read-only
device that's pretty easy. Apple has a pretty good
readme on sharing stuff with Windows machines at

http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=19652

If you need more than that then a program like Virtual PC
for Mac is right up your alley - look here:

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/products/virtualpc/virtualpc.
aspx?pid=virtualpc

If you're trying to *record* a DVD hosted on another
machine I'm afraid that's not possible with the setup you
have because DVD recording software makes hardware calls
to the recorder that can't be passed through a network.

Microsoft makes a Remote Desktop Connection client for
Macs - you can find it here -

http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?
pid=download&location=/mac/DOWNLOAD/MISC/RDC.xml&secid=80&
ssid=9&flgnosysreq=True

Hope this helps -
