I am having a real problem with the Remote Desktop Serice
on a couple of windows Xp laptops. I cannot connect to
them from my computer, but I can connect to them from a
server. From my computer I can connect to the server and
other windows xp machines, but not these new laptops. Is
there some sort of persmission that will deny access from
certain computers.

These computers are all in the same 2000 native mode
domain and on the same LAN.

any thoughts?

Have you checked the built-in firewall settings on these new laptops?
Remote Desktop should have a check next to it. Remote Assistance is not the
same as Remote Desktop.

Not sure if that could be the problem if you are able to connect from your
server to the machines. Only other thing I can think of is that you may
have the RDP ports (TCP 3389) blocked on the vlan that the laptops are
connected to. To check hardware port filtering try putting the laptop on a
small hub that your computer is also connected to... the machines should
use APIPA and should see eachother without any IP configuration changes.

Hope this helps.
