I want to access my work computer from my laptop and/or my home pc. All are
running XP Home edition. Do I have to upgrade one or more to XP Home to use
Micrsoft Remote Access? If so, which one? Or, is there some other free or
relatively cheap software application that is very easy to setup and use?

Thanks

You can try this one. I used to use it to manage my server.

Gordy, You must have Microsoft Windows XP Professional and up to use
Microsoft Remote Assistance. You can however go to www.logmein.com and get
their free software to access your work desktop remotely. Good Luck, I hope
this helped.

Is it worth it to upgrade to XP Professional and, if so, about what does it
cost?

Thanks

There is a more affordable solution than buying RAdmin or XP Pro.
Look at UltraVNC (www.ultravnc.com) It provides remote access, file
copy and chat between the two system. It is "open source" which means
FREE. However, it does not let you print from the remote system to
your local one.

XP pro upgrade retails for $200 and has many key features in which your
Company machine should be using. A business should not use home software as
it is less secure and does not have all of the networking features as the
professional does. It is a decision for you to make. But remember Windows
Vista is now available and you may want to upgrade your computer to Vista
Business edition at work, and Home premium or Ultimate edition on your home
machine. Remember to do the Vista check to see what edition your computers
will support here:

I believe Home premium offers remote assistance. However Logmein free
edition is very useful and you can use it to get you by until you make your
decision. All you have to do is install it on the work computer and create a
login for your home computers. Good Luck,

Upgrading any XP PC at any version of Vista is a "waste of time" right
now. A lot of software (other than Microsoft) are not ready to be ran
on Vista.
