Hi:
What version(s) of Windows (XP Home, Pro, Media Ctr...) are needed in order
for one user to assist anither remotely over the Net. I am getting
conflicting
information based on folks I work with and information on your web site.

Thank you

Pro - but you CAN use the remote assistance function of Windows messenger,
as I did this evening between my PC with Pro installed and my
brother-in-law's PC with Home Edition installed....

I'm confused:

My parents have XP Home Ed.
I want to get a new laptop that has either Home, Pro, or Medi Ctr installed
on it. Which version of the OS do I need in order to take control of their
computer
and fix things for them ? Do they need to do anything special ?

Thanx

To use Remote Desktop both machines must have XP Pro installed.
You can, as I said in my post, use the remote Assistance function in Windows
messenger to control a Home Edition computer from any other machine running
Windows XP.

Hi Gordon:
Thank you for your reply.
I am looking for more details.
My folks have XP Home Ed.
I am looking to get a new laptop running either Xp Pro, Media Ctr, or
possibly Vista.
The question is:
Will I be able to take controi of their machine remotely via the Net
to be able to help them fix problesm etc. ?
If so, how do I go about doing that ?...the details, please.

Thank you

Gordo is an idiot. Both machines *do not* need XP Pro installed.

Think you'll find I'm NOT an idiot - you NEED XP Pro to use remote DESKTOP.
Remote ASSISTANCE, which is what your articles talk about, is, in fact, run
through Windows messenger which is what I said all along.
