Remote Access to Email thru Outlook

I recently stayed at Hyatt Regency Crystal City in Arlington, VA. Through
the wired high-speed Internet service provided by the hotel, I was able to
access my hard drive at work using VPN, but I was unable to access email at
work through Outlook. Neither was I able to access our company's Intranet.
Every time I tried the latter, I would be re-directed to the hotel Internet
service provider. I didn't have these problems at Hilton or at Marriott. Any
explanations and recommended solutions?

Could be a firewall issue at the hotel. They may have certain ports turned
off (like 25). You can try checking with the hotel staff but I doubt they'll
have an in-depth technical understanding of their Internet connection which
is usually provided by a third party. You might also want to try contacting
the provider's tech support. It's usually listed on a card in the room
somewhere.
