relocating the Swapfile

I believe that the 'swap' file is called PAGEFILE.SYS and I think I have
heard it said that it would be better to put this file onto another hard
disk.

I was thinking of setting up a partition on my second HD and putting the
swap file there.

Is the above assumption valid, if so how do I make windows look to the the
location?

Thanks

Derrick

Hi Derk,

It *sometimes* can help performance, but not necessarily always. A lot
depends on how much paging you are actually doing, and what other activity
is going on on that drive. If, as an example, your programs are also on that
second drive, and your pagefile is there as well in a different partition,
and you have a small amount of ram, then the paging will result in excessive
drive head movement and poor performance. The same scenario with lots of ram
may lead to little paging.

Read the article on WinXP's virtual memory here:
http://aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm, then decide for yourself if this is a good
idea. If you decide to move or reallocate a portion of it, then it is done
in the control panel/system/advanced tab/performance
settings/advanced/virtual memory change.
