Hi all,
I work with many XP based PCs. The problem is the if a
user sets a password I have to first get it from them in
order to maintain their PCs. Is there a way around this
at start up for me to bypass their password so that I can
sort out the PC.

Thanks
Joey

Please be more specific..

Do you manage these PCs on a DAILY basis (do you set them up for the user
initially, etc?) If so, create your own user on their PC (do this anyway if
you expect to see the PC again.)

I suppose you have tried the default (by most pre-installed systems) "blank
password for administrator" trick? (In XP Pro - CTRL+ALT+DEL TWICE at the
Welcome screen, userrname = administrator. In XP Home, boot to Safe Mode,
enter "Administrator" as name, press enter as password.)

Otherwise, you could HACK the password - although the owners may not
appreciate that - although they also may never know - doubtful they are
using the true administrator user everyday.

Hack your password:

Another:

As these are security features - no, there is no "easy way" around them - if
there was - that would be as worthless as Windows 98 security. heh

I secoond that. And these days I'm reluctant to tell poeple how to
get into a system because there are so many that want to do it for no
so honorable means.
If you are mantaining systems for users, ask them up front if they
have passwords on the system and then ask them if you can create the
seperate account. You need there permission to do that if htey are
bringing the systems to you. If the users really aren't sure look at
the tools in the first link and then agree on a mutual password with
the user. Also make sure that they don't have any files encrypted
with EFS before you do this or you could really make a mess of things
for them.
