Reinstalling XP on Dell Computer

I have a Dell Dimension and I'm having trouble with a few programs. I was told to reinstall Windows XP but I'm not sure I can do it myself, as I've never done something quite so drastic. Can anyone offer help, or direct me to any type of step by step instructions

DELL PC normally come bundle with restore CD that will restore back to the
state of factory.

They also come with a Microsoft XP CD which will do a
re-install, repair or full install.

Try a repair install using the Dell supplied XP CD.
