Hi all... Thanks in advance for any help you can give me for this problem...

My laptop had a virus (I think), and could no longer run any programs - I'd
click on something and it said there was no file associated with it.
I tried to reinstall Windows XP, but it gets to a point and a window pops up
saying it cannot run file rundll32.exe

Someone here suggested something about a clean install - but the page they
sent me to said that it was not recommended for a laptop....

Please help me..... What can I do?????

Melody

contact the laptop mfg.

A virus should just about never require a reinstall or a clean install

Well, it really doesn't matter what caused it...... it no longer works, so I
tried to start up from the cd and it started to reinstall...... but it stops
when the message pops up saying it cannot run file rundll32.exe
Any ideas of what I can do to get the machine working again....

It's possible that something corrupted a file. The first thing I would
try is going back to a restore point that is before you started having
the problem. This won't result in the loss of anything, except any
programs you may have installed after that point will have to be
re-done. But all your data will be there.

This should at least get your computer back and running so you can
look more in depth for the problem.

Also, when you're reinstalling, it would be a good idea to try that
from safe mode.
