Reinstalling XP - how to get SP1?

Hi;

I've just reinstalled my copy of XP Pro; validated it successfully
etc.etc.
But it's not SP1; and so I'm having what you might term "a bit of a time"
getting automatic updates. I'm not sure, but I guess I have to have SP1 in
order to get automatic updates; and in order to get SP1, I jave to have
automatic updates. (Ouch)

There must be a way round this; I've got a lovely legal copy of XP that I
bought, albeit three years ago now, and it's validated and everything; but
I
seem to be stuck in a loop.

Can anyone suggest an easy solution?

Thanks;

Ah - excellent; thank you both; I knew it must be out there somewhere, but
searching Microsoft's downloads for Service Pack 1, or SP1 didn't turn
this
up!!

Thanks again;

Tim you don't need service pack 1, you need service pack 2 which includes
all the updates from service pack 1. Visit my website
http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org clickt he Win XP Faq button and take a look
at question 80 for details on downloading SP2.
As you have, i presume, a full retail copy of xp you might want to consider
'slipstreaming' SP2 with your copy of XP and creating a new CD with XP and
SP2 included. Question 83 on my site tells you how to do this. It is a much
better way than installing Xp and then having to update it with SP2.

Thanks John; I'm hoping that my current download will sort it; but I'll
certainly make sure I'm slipstreamed for the next (inevitable) time when I
have to reinstall Windows.
