My PC was infected with a virus and I had to start all over. It came with
Works 2002 installed. Now it is asking the the product key on the jewled
case it came in?
It did not come in a jewled case it came in white paper disc holders. I
can not use it at all as a window blocks it asking for the product key. I
have contacted numerous online support techs and duh...they are useless. I
need help and sure would appreciate it...thank you in advance

If Microsoft Works 2002 was preinstalled on your new PC,
you'll have to contact the PC manufacturer and request a
Product Key replacement.

The product key is usually on the CD sleeve.

Thank you for your replies. I do not have the sleaves as I put all the CD's
in a case.
I called Gateway, and Microsoft which said to call the manufacturer. They
claim that they do not have anyway to recover the product key for the 2002
version.

Also the tech stated that the product key number on the side of my tower is
the same number that is used to activate 2002 works. It does not work
however.

I can not believe that they do not have a code that can be used in case of
loss..or a way to recover it.

Also...it states to look at the certificate of authenticity, or the sleeve
of the CD for the product key. Does anyone know how I find the certificate
of authenticity?? Maybe it is in one of the folders or files I have gone
through almost half of them but so far no luck. Thank you this sucks...I
need this for my business and I lost all my files when my PC crashed now can
not use it at all....

download Belarc advisor which you can get free off the
internet. It tells you everything that is in your system
along with authentication key numbers. The same thing
happened to me and dell community forum gave me this
information and now I'm passing it on to you. Good luck.

Loraine....Thank you very very much. I found on my gateway account a place
that had all the software that came with my PC listed but did not have the
codes, everything else..LOL I downloaded a update for 2002 hoping maybe that
would force it to work...I no longer get asked for the product key but when I
try to use it it just sits there and stares at me...LOL Will try this, that
was very nice of you. To keep it you have to give it away, awesome.

Hello. I have just gone through this exact same scenario ... spyware attack
led to a complete re-install of the Windows XP Home Edition and the entire
Office Suite, including Word 2002. Everything works, except I can't open
Word because it asks for a 25 character product key. The disks came in white
paper sleeves with my Dell computer. There are no product keys except for
the one on the side of the machine which worked fine for XP re-install but
doesn't work for the Word set up.

So ...

Dell can't help me. Microsoft doesn't seem to want to help. I paid a lot
of money for this system not that long ago. Can anyone help?

Sorry that you had this problem also. It is just not important enough for
them to care about. They got thier money so heck with you. I am finding out
that anything already on your PC or if you download something your basically
sheet out of luck. I downloaded Mcafee Security Center that is why
everything was lost. And because I downloaded it, they made me buy the disc
in addition after it crashed. Now if I had purchased it...the same price
mind you by disc...I would not have had any problems. But since it was a
download there was a 30 day reinstall clause on the 4th page...LOL. That
page was not even known to me until I went looking for how to reinstall
Mcafee. And after being passed around for a week my 30 days expired even
though the problem started before.

I talked to 3 techs and all but the last gave me bogus information the first
one said use the 25 code on you modem that works for all of the stuff on your
computer...the next gave me a code said it was a universal code..hahahahhaha
nope.

I still believe that there is a way to do this. Hopefully, someone will be
kind enough to share it with us. I was told its a legal thing and they can
not be passing out free codes. Which is ridiculous as all they have to do is
verify it came with your PC.

Good Luck I have so much invested in this PC and everyday something else
has to be purchased....I almost wish I had stayed with Webtv....did I say
that? LOL

Happy Holidays
