reinstalling windows

Hi all. I wanna reinstall windows but I can't. When I press D to delete my
partition with everything on it I get the message cannot delete important
files must be copied. I just wanna start from scratch again.

It sounds like you are trying to install from within Windows. You can't
do this; it would be like trying to cut off a tree limb while still
sitting on it. Boot the computer with the XP CD and start the install.
Delete the current partition and make a new one.

You are trying to delete the partition from within windows. This,
unfortunately, you cannot do. If you have a retail copy of the windows xp cd
then visit my website http://xphelpandsupport.mvps.org click the Win XP Faq
button and take a look at questions 7, 41 and 85. Question 85 will guide you
through installing windows. It is fully illustrated so you will know what
screens appear.

If you only have recovery disks supplied by your pc manufacturer all you
need do is insert the first recovery cd and restart your computer. The
recovery disk should then start the installation of windows xp. Just make
sure you have backed up any important files/documents that you need before
re-installing. You will also have to re-install any applications you added
after the pc was purchased..
