reinstalling windows xp

i need to reinstall windows xp. can anyone help in
describing the steps necessary to reinstall? i assume it
can be overlayed vs. a complete reinstall?

will any of my existing settings be disrupted:
internet explorer - favorites?
outlook express - address book?
modem settings?
video settings, et al?

FIRST, backup any files you MUST keep. I've done it with
W98 and everythig was OK. Don't know about XP. If you
WIPE the drive you'll have the same problem I have, YA
gotta call MS to change the Product ID. Might be the same
if you format the HD.

Anyhow, I'm looking for a phone number.
