Is it possible to reinstall Windows Mail? Mine is messed up...won't open
when I click on Read Mail and won't send mail from outside the Windows Mail
area. Thanks for your help.

It won't uninstall and reinstall unless you are doing the same thing to
all of Vista.

What if any error messages do you get? Showing the entire
messages will get answers faster.

What if any antivirus programs do you have? Some of the
common ones cause various problems in Windows Mail,
although seldom immediately.

Before you even think about reinstalling, think about what caused
it to get that way. Unless you remove the root cause, the same thing
will happen again. Which antivirus are you using?

You can't just reinstall WM since it is an integral part of Vista.
The easiest fix is to simply upgrade to Windows Live Mail:

What screwed it up was me installing Office 2003 Professional which included
Outlook. When I press Read Mail nothing happens at all. When I tried to
send an email from a website the error message said that the email couldn't
be sent because my email program wasn't configured properly.

I uninstalled Outlook but it didn't make a difference. I'm running Norton's
Antivirus but had no problems at all until I installed Officd 2003.

Start | Default Programs
Make sure Windows Mail has all three of its defaults.

This is a really complicated and silly simple problem!!

I installed Office XP today, and much to my regret I did not deselect Outlook.

Now I have no email, and it is not found in the default programs list.

I merged a file "windowsmailregistry.reg" as well as "mailclients.reg".

Still windows mail is not in the default programs list.

Broken user friendly constraints = Cruel.

Click Star and type
"C:/Program Files/Windows Mail/WinMail" /reg

Apparently the install of Outlook corrupted the mail defaults.
The following procedure will rewrite the default protocol
assignments in the registry:
Open the Default Programs applet, then click on "Set program
access and computer defaults." Expand the Custom selection, and
select some other email program besides Windows Mail. Click OK.
Then go back and select Windows Mail. Click OK.
