I don`t know if this is the right newsgroup to post this
questions. Sorry if not, any advice will be wellcome.

That's my problem: I have a PC with my XP Pro full
customized, apps loaded... and now I want to update the
hardware with new motherboard, processor and memory.

I want to preserve my XP installation as is, and I would
like to avoid reinstalling everything from the ground.
Everybody knows the time consuming and headache a task
like reinstalling all XP plus apps, plus customize....
could be.

Is any procedure to reinstall XP in new hardware?
Thanks a lot for help.

Put in the new board. Power up to BIOS setup, set date and time, check
drives are detected, and set Boot to CD before HD.

Set the BIOS to boot CD before Hard disk, then boot the XP CD, start
Setup (do not take 'Repair' at this stage), then after the license
agreement take 'Repair Installation'. This will retain your existing
software installations and most settings. But Updates will have to be
run again, especially SP1; and if you have drivers that only arrived
with that, like USB 2 ones, you will need to update drivers for the
devices concerned. You may find that things like virtual memory
settings and some aspects of appearance have reverted to defaults

This should retain your activation status, though if you have never
registered you may have the setup suggest it now (don't bother).
Depending though on how many changes you have made since it was first
activated, you may nevertheless find you have made so many that you need
to activate again by phoning in, not a big hassle, but be aware of the
possibility
