reinstallation of WinXPHome from OEM Home Edition to a reformatted HDD

windos XP on my second computer lost a few files and even
with a $35 help from Support I could not relace them.
Without those files the computer does not recognize
Hardware annd neither Monitor nor isplay appear in the
list of Device Manager.

I remember that to reinstall XP I had to copy the file
WINNT.EXE from I386 folder to newly formatted C: and
execute but I forgot what parameters to add to start the
Setup.

Any wizard around? d

Normally you'd just boot from the CD and follow the prompts. I can't imagine
why you've been told to go about it in such an odd way, unless you have a
very strange OEM CD. But even those are bootable and are designed to be easy
to use. No need for copying files or adding esoteric commands.
 
I have two OEM XP CDs a PRO and a aHome. Neither of the
two is bootable. The only bootable CD is a W98 i got with
my laptop 4 yrs ago.

Any better info?
 
All of the XP CDs are designed to be bootable, so if that's not working,
it's a problem with your computer setup. Have you checked in the bios to
make sure it's set to boot from CD first? Of course, it could be an issue
with the CD drive itself.

In any case, you can download a set of 6 floppies from MS that will boot the
computer and start the setup process. Make sure you get the right set.
