i've got 6 computers at home, all running xp. i've managed to lose track of
which CD goes with which computer, but i need to reinstall on 2 of them. is
there any way to tell what the key is on a version that's already installed?
i don't want to spend all day on hold at microsoft when i put the wrong CD
in.

thanks

Keys do not go with a CD. They go with the operating system. If you have XP
Home installed on the computer, Use any XP Home CD to repair. Same for
Professional.

If you are speaking of install keys, that is a different matter.

Download and install Belarc Advisor from here
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html.
It will pull the necessary keys up for you.

thanks all for the speeeedy replies. guess i thought that there was an
identifier on the CD that if you tried to clean install it on more than 1
computer, you wouldn't be able to validate it with microsoft.
