After deleting some duplicate files the CD-Rom is not found in Windows
Have tried to download and use startup disk for XP Pro but they are for Fat32 systems and I have NTS driv

How do I install a generic cdrom and do a reinstall on XP

If you do not have a Windows XP CD, then
you'll need to go out and purchase a "Full Version" of Windows XP
and proceed with a "Repair Install".

I have a purchased copy of xp pro -- its the cdrom hardware that is not functioning. its recognized on the black & whit boot up screen but not shown in windows under my compute

have d/l startup diks for xp pro sp1 but they wont work on my drive because I'm using NTF

if you have the win xp cd-rom you ned to boot from that cd-ro

set your cd-rom to be the first boot device in the bios then reboot and press any key when prompted to boot from cd-ro

then follow the instructions on the pages Carey pointed you to to fix the missing cd-rom drivers in win x

and in future...
never delete driver

update them or roll them back through the hardware panel appllications built into windows but dont just go in and delete them

You will need to "fix" the CD rom because XP is only available on CD.
