After getting a corrupted system files error message on start up and getting
nowhere trying repair I reinstalled XP. Up and running but am not allowed
access to my original document files. Am not given another user option to
log on to. What path do I need to follow to get access to those files?

Did you do a repair installation or a complete clean installation?
Did you backup your files? If you did a clean installation and did
not backup your files, then, I am sorry to say, they are gone.

You may need to take ownership of the files.

Could not get any where with repair so did complete install but under a
different name. The original intalled user document file is still there but
I am now denied access. From what I have found out I am hoping I can go
through the "Take Ownershp of a Folder" procedure and get at it. I was
backing up documents on a 2nd HD if push came to shove except for some music
etc. files which I would like to get at.
Thanks

Yes Ron and JS from what I have been able to uncover that is what I need to
try. I did the reinstall under a different name and the orginal intall named
document folder is still there I am now just denied access.
Thanks
