All .msi packages fail to install, coming up with:
Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. You may be
running in safe mode or Windows Installer may not be correctly installed.
I am not running in safe mode so there has to be a problem with 'my
installation'. I have followed all the instructions at:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;315346
....but they did not help.
If anyone can tell me how to reinstall the Windows installer engine without
reinstalling Windows XP (XP's setup has major problems with my new graphics
card), or would send me their working versions of the three files listed in
Method 2, step 4 of that article, I'd be very grateful.
Cheers

If you're interested, due to my new graphics card (Leadtek nVidia ti4200),
Windows setup never finishes (I had to get it fixed professionally the last
time I reinstalled) and instead stays in an endless reboot. If you have any
clue on how to fix that problem as well it would be great.
