Reinstall - will my prod key work?

I want to re-install windows xp. How will I re activate it online since my
product key has all ready been used during the original install. (I'm
switching machines by the way, ditching the old!)
 
If it has been more than 120 days since the previous activation, you will
have no trouble using it on new hardware. If less than that, you could always
use the phone in option available on the activation dialog.

Just as you did before. If it's been over 120 days since last activation, it
should activate over the internet just as it did before. If fewer than 120
days, you be prompted to make a voice call to an 800 number. It's quick and
easy either way.

But that puts a potentially different light on it. Is your copy of Windows a
retail one or an OEM one? If a retail one, what I said above still holds.
But if it's OEM, be aware that your license agreement ties Windows
permanently to the first computer it's installed on, and you may not to do
what you plan to do.
