Hi All,

I just installed XP-Pro on a motherboard that had
its BIOS power management APM disabled. This means
that when XP shuts down, you have to press the power
button to get it to turn off.

I realize that I can get this functionality back
by doing an in place reinstall (after enabling the BIOS).

But, I am hoping some kind soul knows of an easier way.

Many thanks,

Hi Tony,

In a normal installation, you should only need to enable it in Power
Options, not the BIOS, enabling both can cause conflicts. APM is not enabled
by default in a standard WinXP installation (why? I don't know, I believe it
has to do with not all systems using APM properly supporting the sleep
modes).

Take a look in Control Panel - Power Options to see if there *is* an APM
page, on which you can enable it. If not, the repair reinstall will be
needed
