Hi, I have a LAN comprising 3 Win XP PRo boxes and also a laptop. I
recently needed to reinstall XP to the laptop, but had a few problems.
Is there a way that I can reinstall from my LAN using the laptop's copy
of XP and the booting facility inherent in the laptop's netwqork card?

Not without setting up a server for the laptop to download the boot files
from. Windows 2000 server does this - it's called RIS (Remote Installation
Services).

If you've just got 3 computers and a laptop it will be far more hassle than
it's worth. You're better off just re-installing from the original CD's. If
you're asking about LAN installs because you've got a problem with the CD
Drive, your quickest and cheapest option would probably be to buy a USB
CD-ROM drive.

Can I use one of my Win XP boxes to simulate a server and run RIS?
