since reinstalling xp home sp1 (previously sp2) I have all my programs in
folders in the My Programs list on Drive C. These do not show up on my
'Start' > All Programs list. Thdey will not run, giving the message Items may
have been moved that are required. I also get a lot of line error messages do
I wish to debug.
have I now lost all these programs, and will the reinstallation of service
pack 2 solve the 'line error' problems.

After the OS install did you reinstall the applications?

I have reinstalled some programs such as MS Office which recognised a
previous installation which it removed. However it is MSWorks which I
urgently need, and I cannot find the original program disc. (I know!!!). I
was wondering if there was any way to restore these stored items back to
where they where.

I'm afraid not. Go to the store and buy Works, which is relatively
inexpensive (especially compared to Office).
