Our computer had a virus and we had it "cleaned" but now we have lost a lot of our programs. How do we reinstall them ?

Insert the installation CD and follow the prompts,

In the case of Office,
there is usually a REPAIR option.

I would avoid Works - 10 year old crap.

OK, so your PC had a virus and it was 'cleaned'.

Did you install an anti-virus programme, or did someone else clean it for you?

Have these 'lost' programmes simply been rendered inoperative because of certain damaged files as a consequence of the virus infected files being deleted or is your registry corrupt?

Without the correct information, advice is a bit hit-and-miss.

Certainly a good step would be to determine if you have all the installation CDs available to rebuild your PC in totality.

If this is the case, then copy all your own files off to CD and make a note of your internet connection details: username, password etc.

It will be just as quick to perform a clean installation as it would to reinstall. A benefit would be the expectation of a properly set up PC.

SO stick in the Windws CD and perform a clean installation, you will be given the choice to install and delete the original Windows. Go ahead. Then install each application: one by one.

It takes time, but you will have a sound system. Make sure that before going onto the internet and after all other applications are installed, that you install anti-virus. Use the Windows Firewall not that of a third party, because with SP2 coming in a few weeks, you'll find that it may affect 3rd party firewalls and the reports are that the new firewall from Microsoft is a big improvement.
