I just reinstalled XP on my computer and now when I start up the computer it brings up an option where I can choose from two different Windows XP Home Versions. From what I can guess the first one doesnt work and I get a message saying something about hardware documentation, so that was the original install and the second one does work and that one is the new install. My question is when I go into My Computer-Documents and Settings I can see the folder for my old username as well as my new username, guest and default from the original install but it wont let me open the folder of my old username to go to all my old files. I dont know if theyre still there but I went to network file transfer and I could open that folder and I could see all the subfolders inside of it but that was as far as it would let me go. I know most of this info must be vague but if anyone understands what Im talking about I would appreciate any comments or help about accessing my old files if at all possible.

Hi,

1) Start/run msconfig, go to the boot.ini, click on the entry that works and
then on "set as default". Then click on "check all boot paths", it should
offer to remove the invalid one.

2) You need to take ownership of them. Right-click the folder, select
properties. Go to the security tab and click advanced. You can take control
of the folders on the owner tab. For the security tab to appear in a WinXP
Pro system, you must disable simple file sharing in the control panel/folder
options/view tab. For a WinXP Home system, you must restart in safe mode and
logon as administrator. More details here:
