Reinstall help--hangs

Trying to reinstall XP Home. It keeps hanging at the screen that says it has approx 25 minutes to go. Have unplugged all the peripherals and the network. Restarted several times, can't get past that

XP was working before that for months until last week started getting "windows explorer has encountered an error needs to close" message whenever I accessed the windows print system or My Network Places. Couldn't figure that problem out either---tried uninstalling all the printers, no luck

Suggestions for either problem? Thanks.
 
I had a similar problem a few weeks ago, except my reinstallation attempts
terminated with an unremovable error message that appeared with about 13
minutes to go. It left me no choice other than to do a fresh install on a
new partition. Although the thought of reinstalling all my programs and
settings seemed daunting at the time, in hindsight, it was the best thing I
ever did. My system seems so much faster and more efficient now, and I am
thankful I was forced into doing it.
