Hi all,

I have what seems to be a corrupt xp (somehow got corrupted along the
way and seems to be unfixable). If I want to install another XP on a
different partition, is there any way for me to retrieve the registry
and info from my old xp? For example if I have a given installed
program (the program still resides on the machine) and I dont want to
reinstall it, is there a component of the old windows I can copy into
the new windows to make that program work? That is can I copy the old
registry over to the new windows xp?

Will copying the system32 directory be a solution? in Short I need to
get my new xp working like my old xp (with all the programs and
shortcuts etc that my old xp had). Reason being is that Im afraid that
if I reinstall the old apps the info that I had might be lost. For
example I had mssql running on my old xp, I can reinstall it but Im
afraid it might delete my old databases. If I can get my new windows to
"see" the old apps than its like nothing happened.

Thanks for listening, hope you can help.

Unfortunately it doesn't work like that. With a clean installation of
XP, software needs to be installed from the original media. Data can be
copied but not software.
