Hi All,
I use Outlook extensively for Tasks, Calendar and Contacts. I'd like to come
up with a solution to essentially keep another copy of my pst file on
another machine on my network (which has it's own backup system & network
shares). I can see a couple of ways this could be done behind-the-scenes,
and I thought I'd check out if anyone had any thoughts on them. They are:
1) Simply move the normal pst file to the network share and work from there.
Would have problems if network was down, possibly resulting in automatic
creation of a new pst and a complete balls-up in the settings. (or is this
handled gracefully?)
2) Create a new pst file and use the Inbox Rules stuff to copy everything.
Would have problems with syncronisation when changing things.
3) Use an VBScript macro to execute the file/export stuff to create a new
copy of the pst on the network share at known intervals or on startup.
Unfortunately, every backup would be a full one, but as my e-mail is on
IMAP, the "Personal Folders" pst is only 7 meg, 6 meg of which is "Sent
Items"! ;-) (Can these be moved to the IMAP sent items folder
automatically somehow to reduce this?)
4) Buy a commercial backup solution (unlikely)
Any input would be appreciated!!
