At start up windows can't find a file . It asks to remove the reference to it
in the registry.
How can I best accomplish this?
Where is the registry and how do I find the file reference?

Thanks for any help

I take it the file is jkfc.exe and not jkfc.exc. For the particular
file entry, you can download and install Autoruns:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb963902.aspx
After you launch it and it quickly finishes scanning, click Options and
select "Hide Microsoft Entries". Then press F5 to refresh the screen.

You should be able to find the file by running Autoruns. Right click on
the line and select Delete. You can also right click on an item and
have it search online, which can be helpful.

But it looks like you have other issues. You can start by going here
and download and run the Anti-malware tool.
www.malwarebytes.org

There are many other posts here regarding malware/viruses. You can find
other tools and info in them.

Your issue is a prime example of why good registry cleaners are needed.
Don't listen to the others who say registry cleaners are "snake oil". To fix
your issue automatically, download CCleaner from here
http://www.ccleaner.com/ install it and when you run it select the registry
icon on the left to clean your registry. Let it fix all but choose to backup
when prompted. Your problem should then be fixed.

Yes, suggest just removing a shortcut and not recognize that the EXE
file in question is probably malware or a virus. In that case, removing
the shortcut will not FIX anything!

Terry ,

Well ... since the file is claimed to not exist, how is removing the
call to it bad? And who said it was a shortcut? Just you, I'm afraid.
Registry calls to a file are not shortcuts.

HOW is it not a fix? How can you KNOW it's not a fix?
If you know that's not a fix, you must know the correct solution.
What is the correct solution?

Learning how to quote properly would help you at least maintain the
context of a thread and not answer questions that weren't there. It's
like you were in a hurry to leave before you got noticed<g>.

In most cases, with "well-mannered" applications, it's usually as
simple as opening the undesired program and deselecting the option to
"display icon in the system tray" or to "start when Windows starts."

Additionally, Look in the C:\Documents and Settings\All
Users\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up and C:\Documents and
Settings\username\Start Menu\Programs\Start Up folders, and in the
system registry, primarily in the
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run and
HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run keys.

There is No exe in question it is gone that's why he is getting the error
message. There is a pointer in the registry pointing to that non existent
file. That happens when crappy anti-virus or Anti-malware does not fix all
the issues caused by the malware it removes.

No it isn't. It is a prime example of why good AV/Anti-Spyware programs
are needed, the good ones also remove these entries when they remove
malware. Instead of using registry cleaners the user can simply do a
registry search for the file or use the Autoruns program suggested by
Terry. Your post is a prime example of why your claims to being an MVP
are dubious to say the least, instead of teaching the poster about
registry startup locations and about useful tools available to
investigate these entries you chose instead to lead the poster down onto
the path of ignorance.

bk42, here's your choice: you can listen to the fake MVP who posted the
message above or you you can listen to those of us (almost all MVPs and many
others) who tell you that registry cleaners are snake oil, doing essentially
nothing of value, and being dangerous.

It's your choice who to listen to, but my advice is to avoid all registry
cleaners.

Registry calls to a file are not shortcuts.

If you had the experience in removing malware, you'd understand what I
meant. And arguing about a registry key or a shortcut is just
semantics. Both are referencing a file, but you probably never thought
of that.
HOW is it not a fix? How can you KNOW it's not a fix?
If you know that's not a fix, you must know the correct solution.

I suggested a way to remove it, but you probably didn't take the time to
read it did you?

Quote properly? Man, you need to learn to follow threads. Start over
and report back, okay? Then your foolish reply won't even make sense to
you!

Then my response to the OP would have been sufficient.

His response to me was done on purpose, just another futile attempt to make
me look bad because he believes the "Trolls" he's lucky my reply to his was
a nice one.

Done on purpose to let the OP know that there was no reason to use a
chain saw to cut a toothpick in two. My reply was the better choice.
Get over it.

Don't think you know what I believe. You clearly don't.

And luck has nothing to do with it. As if there is anything you type
hiding behind a keyboard can hurt anyone.
