I'm running xp pro sp2. Ran scan & found registry problems. There are 3
users. I don't want to reinstall & loose all info or BUY software. Tried to
repair by installing cd over existing version, get message that current
version is newer than original cd. Therefore I can't repair it???

Hi Dan,

What were you using to scan the registry? Most third party registry cleaners
and scanning tools are unreliable in WinXP systems and often damage more
than they repair.

Why did you run the scan in the first place? What was wrong?

If you've installed a service pack to an existing installation, then the
original media can't be used to repair the updated system as the media does
not contain the service pack files. The solution to this is to create a
slipstreamed CD containing your installation files plus the service pack
update. You can find instructions here:

Registry Cleaning ? - I just finished work on a "Over Cleaned"
Registry. Even with RegSession backups restored, PC had a
number of "Quirks" and was giving the owner fits. On delivery
he told me that all these "Tips-&-Tricks" he reads on the Web
aren't always safe to do - No kidding.
