bHey all,

Just out of curiousity, can I set registry entries or is there a component I
can customize that will dupliucate if I RightClicked My
Computer/Advanced/Performace Settings/ Adujust for best performance

And also, to enable the LAN icon on the taskbar to show its connected.

Also, in respect to EWF, I don't understand this line from the msdn
library....

"Etprep is only required if you are configuring the run-time image with EWF
on a device other than the deployment device. For example, if you are
creating a bootable CD-ROM, you must first deploy the run-time image on a
hard disk to run FBA. After configuring FBA and EWF, you run Etprep to
configure your run-time to boot from the CD-ROM device."

So if I was deploying the image from sdi2hd from a cd to obviously a CF
drive, do I need to use etprep or not?

If I do, is there a way to automate that?

Thanks folks, I appreciate it.

Hi Mark,
Also, in respect to EWF, I don't understand this line from the msdn

Something that one of our politicians said in public interview for CNN, quote "Don't mix grandmas and frogs" :-)

et-prep is required if you make bootable El-torito XPe CD per MS documentation.
If you already made image that can boot from CD then you don't need to use it any more.
So if I was deploying the image from sdi2hd from a cd to obviously a CF
drive, do I need to use etprep or not?
Directly answer to this question is that there is no connection between sdi2hd or CF for that matter with etprep and you don't need
to have it or use it.

Slobodan-

First I'd like to say thank you for adding some humor to my day, second I
just want to clarify to make sure everything is understood.

I've prepared an image by building it straight to a virtual sdi disk. Then
I copy the image along with few other utilities to a bootable cd. I boot the
target machine with the bootable cd. It's just a basic dos boot cd. The
machine loads DOS then I use DOS as well as the sdi2hd command to extract the
image to the Compact Flash Drive. I was under the impression that running an
image from a CF drive required EWF? Am I incorrect?

Thanks again,

Mark

Hi Mark,
I was under the impression that running an
image from a CF drive required EWF? Am I incorrect?

First just to make clear that etprep is not in any relation to usage of EWF.
If you need to use RAM EWF configured trough registry on removable CF then say so.
You can find my solution and/or documentation how to configure EWF not to use and create temporary partition (Go to www.xpefiles.com
and find regramewf). Also in SP2 documentation it is documented how to do it.
I was under the impression that running an image from a CF drive required EWF?
Not truly required but it is certainly wanted. Since XPe can wear out CF if there is no EWF to prevent too many writes to same
sector.
