registry repair/sasser

I am fairly new with computers and I realize that I should probably take my
problems to someone who actually knows what they are doing. Unfortunately
though I am a poor college student and I cannot afford programs/stores that
offer to fix your computer. So I was wondering if there was any advice anyone
had to help me out as much as possible....

Recently I get a message that tells me the LAS (export edition) has a
problem and has to close. About 3 minutes after, I get another message that
says the system needs to shut down, so my computer restarts. This is
frustrating because I can barely get a paragraph in for a paper.

So I ran checks through the help and support and it told me that my registry
was severely corrupted. Also while running checks on my computer it said
something or the other about having a sasser. Im fairly sure this is not a
good thing.

What can I do to fix this or help it out a little. Or should I just find
someone who knows what theyre doing such as a computer engineer that would be
willing to help me for a homemade dinner??

I would go the homemade dinner route.

There are four building blocks for internet security...without them, you
may as well not operate a computer.

Firewall - Windows XP SP 2 has a fine firewall. A third party firewall
adds additional protection. The Zone Alarm firewall is a free download.

Antivirus software - Can't live without this. The major brands of
antivirus software are widely discounted and rebated and will ost you
little or nothing.

Anti-spyware software - Can't live without this either. Lavasoft
Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy are too fine programs and they're
free. Other programs will provide better protection and are also widely
discounted and rebated.

Throw in dessert and ask for recommendations for strong antivirus and
anti-spyware protection.

Backup - Windows has its own backup program. Not the most convenient,
but it works. You must backup regularly.

Your first line of defense against internet attacks is you! Be very
careful on the internet - it's the world's worst neighborhood.

I'd start with this one.
