Hi,
My HD crashed and I can't boot to Windows XP with it. I used data recovery
program and the Windows\System32\Config and the Documents and settings
directories seem to be intact. All I need to recover from the drive now is a
registry entry. Any ideas on how to go about doing that?

Once you have XP installed on a new HD you can browse to and load a registry
hive from the old HD (presuming it remains in place as a secondary disk and
is accessible) using regedit. See

Thank you. But what if I need information that's in HKEY_Local_Machine ?

The various registry component files are listed here
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\hivelist
