Registry recovery, then errors all over the place.

One day - the day after I installed the newer version of Apple iTunes - I got
an error message when I booted up: "One of the files containing the system's
registry data had to be recovered by use of a log or alternate copy. The
recovery was successful."

I got the same message the next time I booted up also. I noticed: Norton
virus protection doesn't work any more, iTunes won't load (unless I open a
file and tell it to use the program), my "Show Desktop" button on the taskbar
doesn't work AND it doesn't have an icon any more, and Microsoft Word stalls
for a long time before opening.

I tried doing a System Restore, but it keeps telling me that System Restore
didn't work, and my settings were not reverted to a previous version. I
tried a few different restore points, including the one before the iTunes
installation, and before that.

Can anyone help?? Anything would be nice.

The inability to do a system restore could be due to the Norton software.
See Bert Kinney's system restore page.
