Using a registry cleaner and I get a "critical error" concering a File
Association.
It reads"One or more file types are not registered correctly which can
casue windows explorer to crash.

This the the "KEY" they say is invalid:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\WINWORD.EXE\TaskbarExceptionsicons\explorer.exe,16\ and in that folder is under headings:
NAME- Default
TYPE-REG_SZ
DATA- %ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office10\OUTLOOK.EXE

Is this anything important? and how should I go about fixing this? Can I
safely delete this entry in my regedit? Or leave it alone?

Thanks

I have the same key. I have Word 2002 but no Outlook of any flavor.

My C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office10\ contains no OUTLOOK.EXE. If
yours doesn't either that may be what is setting off the alarm. The Value
Data may be pointing to something that does not exist. i.e. OUTLOOK.EXE.
I would leave the key alone. Ignore or simalar in your registry cleaner.
It probably isn't hurting anything.

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\WINWORD.EXE\TaskbarExceptionsIcons\explorer.e
xe,16
Default
REG_SZ
%ProgramFiles%\Microsoft Office\Office10\OUTLOOK.EXE

I strongly recommend that you use Nortons Utilities which has systems checker. It can automatically clean your registry and correct any errors. It does about 7 different checks and you have the option of letting it fix them automatically. I suggest get the latest version called Norton SystemsWorks 2005 Premier which costs about $60 but includes antivirus, ghost etc etc.

PS: I've always known it. Too much salt is bad for your health.!!

I use non Microsoft products wherever possible which requires no activation.

I use Netscape 7.2 as my default browser which has everything I need for my work.
