registry edit

I cannot use the writing tools in wordperfect office 12. I get an error
message
that says "internal error." I am told by Corel that I need to edit the
registry. When
I follow their instructions and type in "regedit" at the "run" command box I
get the following error message "16 bit ms-dos subsystem. The system file is
not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. " How
can I edit the registry?
