When I start up Windows XP (after clicking on the user profile icon), I get an error message saying, "registry data not found," or something like that. But it's a very generic looking error message, with no buttons to click except "ok." So I really can't do any further investigation about the problem or how to fix it.

What is this problem, and how do I fix it? Thanks.

Hi Cuatro01,

When you receive the error message and then click on OK, does Windows then
continue loading to Desktop? If so, there might be a problem with a program
that's loading at startup. Go to Start>Run and key in msconfig then hit
ENTER or click on OK. Click on the Startup tab. Disable items that load at
startup, one at a time, by clicking in the checkbox beside them in order to
clear the checkmark, then click on Apply then OK. Restart your computer
after each "unchecking" of an item. When you don't receive that error
message, chances are that the last item that you unchecked is the culprit.
