How do I back up my registry files in XP? I plan to download a program that
will help to powerdown my computer that I learned about at a Microsoft
newsgroupl The author suggests backing up the registry first. How do I return
to the registry settings I mess up the installation? Any advice is
appreciated. Thank you.

The backup wizard backup's more then just the registry. If you just want the
registry to go:
Start ->Run->type regedit->click File then click Export->now give it a name
like regedit(backup).reg and save.
Note: Make sure the Export Range is on "All" before saving.

They are backed up as part of each System Restore point. Make sure you
have one, see Start - All Programs - Accessories - System Tools - System
Restore and create one. Then if you decide to clear out you can then
revert to that and all will be tidy
