Chris

Having been informed that what I thought I'd lost with
the system32.exe was in fact a virus, I followed the
instructions that were given to me on removal, yet,
whenever I start up my pc I get the "could not find
system32.exe." warning window. I have been through
regedit and can't locate the place where it is said (in
the virus destructions, to be.
How do I stop this warning coming up?

Will. Thanks for your help with the previous problem.

Hi

Have you had a look in msconfig to see if it is trying to load from there?

Hi Chris

On the Symantec site:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion

Should read, I think:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion

For RegisteredOwner & RegisteredOrganization

Does this help?

Hi Chris

You checked in the win.ini file... just in case? ATM, I can't think where else that message can be coming from. One other way you may be able find out what is causing that message is a 'Selective Startup'. Open Help and Support and search for 'selective startup' - without the quotes.

I found the offending file at last. Regedit has a search
option! I should have looked for it earlier instead of
wasting your time but panic first and think logicaly
later I guess! The file was at
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVer
sion\Winlogon in case you have anymore panickers later.

Thanks for all your help and paitence.
